The World of Tencendor

I'm very sad to see how little-used this community is anymore. :[ I used to chat on here [with my old lj angelfetus] a couple years ago when it was more active. It was kind of like... a release... after a long day. Books are everybody's release from reality, to get mixed up in someone else's unrealistic life that somehow seemed more amazing than our own. Sara Douglass' books, more so than most, were the best to get lost in. & it was wonderful to be able to share that with others. idk about you guys, but nobody I know in person has read the books. So to be able to chat, gossip, giggle, & debate over them like middle-school girls with crushes was one of the best feelings I had... erm, once upon a time. ^_^;

I don't know. I just wanted to say how I felt about this, & wondered if anybody else felt the same. I wish there were some way for us to all become active again. There have been attempts, but... well, you see the results.

I miss this community.

I'm still kinda new to the whole community things so I haven't really posted much. With me, I didn't know anyone that read Sara Douglass books, I just saw a book that had a cool title and was really cheap. With that book, I got completely hooked by Sara Douglass' world of Tencendor. When I finished the first trilogy, I forced my mom to read it. Took her forever to start since she doesn't like fantasy. When she finally did start, she easily caught up to me and we finished the series together. After that I read Beyond The Hanging Wall and Threshold hoping to find a bit more of the world of Tencendor. At first I was sad to see nothing from the Axis Trilogy or Wayfarer Redemption Trilogy but I loved them in their own rights. Next came the Crucible Trilogy which had its own pull but I didn't find quite as amazing as the Tencendor books. Finally, I got The Troy Game series and I must say that those are my favorite. I loved all of the characters which is rare for me. I thought she did an amazing job of getting all of them to mature throughout the series in believable ways. Right now I am waiting on Book 3 of the Darkglass Mountain series. Its really cool seeing characters from all of her Tencendor works and how they interact. Oh yeah, and Grace = Awesome.

Threshold was really good, in my opinion. I read the last half of the book in one night because I just couldn't put it down. & the Troy Game series is FANTASTIC. I agree with you; Grace IS awesome. Sara is so freaking talented, I swear to god. I've read her books over & over & over, & I still laugh & cry (yes, I actually bust up laughing in some places). & her books have that lasting effect, where the happiness & sadness of the endings cling to you for days!

I'm a bit sad that the community is so inactive, but I wasn't around when it was, so I guess I don't really know what I'm missing out on. I'm kind of used to being a member of small, obscure, and rather inactive communities on LJ.

I'd love it if it were a bit more active, but I don't really know what to do to make it that way. I'm much more interested in discussion than fanfic or icons, but I can't really think of anything new that needs to be discussed.

I've found with these sorts of things that they become much more active when something new is about to happen (a film is being made of the book, a new book is coming out etc) and unless the community can find something else to occupy its members' attention when these new things aren't happening, the community will fade away. (For example, I'm a member of an Isobelle Carmody forum and in the long years between books, it sustained itself with a focus on competitions, RPGs and long discussions of other books.)

I hope that helps a bit.

Oh no. Oh dear god, no. You just can't write fanfics to Sara's work. I mean, I doubt that ANYBODY could continue one of her stories, or create a branch from it, & have it as interesting & intriging as Sara's books. This community did have some icon contests once. There were a few that were used from Royo's book covers & edited, & they were pretty nice. But other than taking the few pictures there actually are, it's not easy to make passable icons. lol.

I understand what you're saying completely. This community, I think, was made soley for the purpose of the Axis trilogy & Wayfarer Redemption trilogy. But some how everybody started talking about Sara's other books, & then when she was working on the Darkglass Mountain series everybody was talking about that. Somehow, though, I think I'd be sorely disappointed if there were ever movies made from her books. I mean, look how Twilight turned out. Decent book, not so great movie. Now imagine taking AMAZING books. Yeah, probably not so great movies. :/

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting that there should be movies made of the books. It's just that when nothing new is being written, a lot of people tend to lose interest and wander away from communities. I'm not saying that's a good thing (or saying that Sara should write more quickly, especially since she's very sick right now) but just saying that's how things are.

Personally I'm more interested in the Troy Game books, but since this is a Tencendor community, I'm not being picky about what is discussed.

mm, the Troy Game books were extremely well-written. If I hasn't found the Wayfarer Redemption series first, Troy Game would be my favorite. But I'm just too sentimental. :D

Fair enough. I read the Troy Game books first, so that might explain it.

Yeah, I joined this community before I realized how inactive it was. D:

I also don't know anyone in person who's read them, although I am trying to get my best friend into it. I even wrote her a synopsis for the whole of Hades' Daughter, since that's the only one of The Troy Game I don't own. She hasn't read them yet though. *sigh*
